How low can the Emmys go?

It looks like the 69th annual Emmy Awards are heading into sub-basement territory in terms of ratings after host Stephen Colbert spent much of Sunday’s event attacking President Trump.

It turns out American viewers may not have been as into Trump bashing as Hollywood would like them to be, as the 8.2 overnight rating among metered market households is down 2.4 percent from the 2016 edition, which would make it the lowest rated Emmy telecast ever.

The reason it’s hasn't been officially labeled the lowest-rated Emmys yet is because six of the 56 markets are in Florida have not reported, as Hurricane Irma is still holding up the process in areas that were severely impacted by the storm.

  1. More to the point, why watch the Emmys? Why should one care who gets what award? The speeches are largely forgettable and devoid of content. Group think. Nor do I care what some gal wore to this trade show, looking more like a high priced hooker, than a women of some class and elegance.
And now the depressing news, it seems unlikely that given the ratings slide, they will not get a clue. I predict that they will continue to double down in their mistaken (and out of touch with reality) belief that the general public cares and is influenced by their pompous political pronouncements. As of this writing, I have yet to the theater to watch a new release, nor have I check-out any from Red Box. The NFL can be as politically correct as they want. I will not be watching any of their games. It also means I will not be seeing any of the ads as well. The Emmy Awards are becoming the living example of insanity: They continue to do the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result.

    1. YES! Thank-you for mentioning what I forgot, the computer. What the legacy TV networks (ABC,NBC,CBS) and Hollywood don't understand is that they are in the same position as the MSM and the big box stores, becoming largely irrelevant. I see no need to watch TV when I can surf the internet. It is a given that the MSM no longer gives "the news", but propaganda. The big box stores are in difficult times trying to adjust to the former customers ordering on-line. Companies that were once house hold names are no longer in existence (with many more to follow). Also, there are the computer games. Why watch passively the TV when you can actively play a first person game, in which the outcome depends on the choices you make while playing your role? . Bottom line here is Hollywood also needs to understand that it has to give the viewer a quality product. I am bored with all the crimes shows. The violence and gore is boring, unneeded and out of touch with reality. Crude talk does not impress me. If I really, want to see sex on the screen, there is plenty of internet porno. There is no need to "kill your TV", TV is doing that all by itself. So again thank-you for mentioning the computer. By the way, there are still some of us who still treasure reading books!
